Regrouting bath and shower

Hi there,

II Have an old place and i need to regrout the bath tub and shower area in my bathrooms. Grout is falling and mold.  I know there are two types of grout and is wondering which one is best and any tips on how to tackle this project. Thanks in advance

When it comes to grout, the two main options are standard cement-based grout and epoxy grout, and each has its pros and cons.

Cement based grout, such as

is the most common and is what most DIYers use. It’s affordable, easy to work with, and forgiving during application, which makes it a good option if you’re tackling the job yourself. The downside is that it’s porous, so it can absorb moisture and is more prone to staining and mould over time unless it’s properly sealed and maintained.

Epoxy grout, such as

It’s highly resistant to water, stains, and mould, and generally lasts much longer without needing sealing or heavy maintenance. The trade-off is that it’s more expensive and a bit trickier to apply, as it sets faster and requires more care during installation.

For tackling the job, the key is in the prep. You’ll want to remove all the old, loose grout first, clean the joints thoroughly, and make sure everything is dry before applying new grout. Take your time packing the grout firmly into the joints and clean off excess as you go to avoid haze on the tiles. Once finished, allowing proper curing time and sealing if using cement grout will help extend the life of the job.
