How to install a curtain rod above metal window frame?

Hi, trying to put curtain rods above our windows and sliding doors. Drilling pilot hole and feels like hitting metal. Used ac and stud detector and it says detects something around the frame so figured it’s the metal window frame but am only about 1cm in and hitting something hard approx 50mm above the recess? Can anyone advise pls?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you, join us, and thanks for sharing your question about installing your curtain rod.

I propose going to the left-hand side of your window and using the stud finder there. I then suggest drilling a small pilot hole on the left-hand side of the window. If you still hit steel, odds are you have a steel framed window, or your window is connected to a steel frame stud. I recommend changing your drill bit to one that can drill through steel such as the

or similar.

I suggest using

https://www.bunnings.com.au/buildex-10g-x-50mm-class-3-sheet-metal-screws-countersunk-rib-head-50-pack_p0920394

or similar to anchor the curtain rail holder to the wall. My best advice is to drill pilot holes where the rail holders are to be positioned. This will make it easier to screw them in place.
