How to fix a cracked steep concrete driveway?

Need to repair old, cracked concrete driveway. Made of several large slabs, possibly 40 degree slope. Needs to be cost effective too so concrete/ epoxy/ aggregate? Will obviously need grinding first. Would I need to acid wash too?
A bit stuck on which product to use to prevent sliding down the hill. Also is it necessary to cover slab by slab or cover the whole thing in one continuous finish?

A 40-degree driveway is very steep, so you’re right to think carefully before choosing a coating. Most thin coatings like concrete paint, epoxy, or roll-on sealers are not ideal on slopes like this. The main issue is that they form a thin film over the surface. Even when anti-slip grit is added, tyres and foot traffic gradually polish that film smooth, especially in the wheel tracks. On a steep incline that loss of texture can quickly turn into a sliding risk when wet, dusty, or covered in leaves. That’s why paint-type systems are usually better suited to flatter driveways where traction isn’t as critical.

For a steep driveway like yours, a thicker cement-based resurfacing layer with a deliberately rough texture is usually the safest and most cost-effective approach. Instead of relying on grit mixed into paint, this method creates real mechanical grip by leaving the surface slightly coarse or broadcasting sand or fine aggregate into the wet coating. That texture holds up much better over time and doesn’t polish smooth as easily under tyres.

Given how steep your driveway is, I don't recommend doing this as a D.I.Y project due to the slip safety factor. I propose engaging a professional driveway resurfacing specialist. They can apply thicker textured systems that are designed for high slopes and ensure the finish provides adequate traction for vehicles and pedestrians. A professional will also understand slip-resistance requirements, drainage considerations, and movement joints so the repair remains safe and durable. This is particularly important on steep driveways where surface choice can affect vehicle control and safety, and where local guidelines or standards may apply.
