Hi, currently one of my toilet buttons broke (see attachment) and was trying to find a replacement, however was unable to find a similar one, as this one needs a plain stick at the end for it to work (see attachment). The marking inside cistern says GWAIL (which I believe is the brand) and toilet was installed in 2001/2002.
Thanks in advance, any advice would be much appreciated
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @sambher. It's wonderful to have you join us and many thanks for your question on toilet systems.
Given the age of your toilet and the brand noted inside the cistern, the flush button you’re referring to is most likely a proprietary part. Unless it happens to be a generic component used across multiple manufacturers, it can be quite difficult to match an exact replacement off the shelf.
In most cases like this, you would need to source the specific button assembly directly from the original manufacturer (if parts are still available).
An alternative option is to replace the entire flush valve mechanism inside the cistern. However, you’ll still need to make sure the new mechanism is compatible with:
Given the age of the unit, the simplest and most reliable solution is often to replace the whole cistern, as modern replacements are relatively budget-friendly and come with readily available parts.
You might also want to consider replacing the entire toilet suite for a more modern, water-efficient model.
Please note: Plumbing work should be carried out by a licensed professional to ensure safety and compliance.
If you do go down the replacement route, we have a convenient Toilet Installation Service available that can make the process much easier.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
