Marlie and Rob Potter have shared many projects with the Bunnings Workshop community that demonstrate how thoughtful planning and some hard yakka can create places you love spending time in.
Known on Workshop as @marliemakesit, the pair moved into their home in Miranda, NSW in 2020. They quickly spotted potential in a neglected backyard corner that had become little more than a spot for washing. It had synthetic turf, old bamboo screening and a tired barbecue area. Rather than leave it as wasted space, they set out to create something greener, more functional and more inviting.
Drawing on Marlie’s love of design and plenty of inspiration-gathering, the couple developed a plan that would work for their budget. A lucky find of discounted porcelain pavers helped bring the makeover to life, and over several weekends they stripped the area back, painted the fence, laid paving, built raised garden beds and added a bench seat in the sunny corner.
The finished space is now somewhere to enjoy a morning coffee, spend time gardening, or for entertaining friends and family around the barbecue.
It is one of many inspiring projects Marlie and Rob have shared on Workshop, including a bench using reclaimed timber, a mosaic bar cart and a rear deck and fence refresh.
