How to finish new sliding door threshold?

Question

I’ve just had a window removed, section of brick veneer wall removed and sliding door installed, and I’ve been left with the situation shown in the photos. Just wondering what my options are to finish this nice and neat?

The concrete slab will be getting tiled in the next couple months, and I’m 95% sure I’ll be lime washing the bricks in the near future also if that has any bearing on the options to consider.

You will need to install a timber window sill with something like this product. It should have been installed by the glaziers or at the least recommended. Once cut to size, it will need to be primed and painted or sealed with an oil depending in desired finish.

I like the idea of a timber sill, its cut at a slight angle to aid drainage but I think its worth the extra effort as it would look very nice against the limewash you mention.

I would suggest a decent carpenter to make the sill and install it. It needs to stand up to time so worth doing well.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your sliding door threshold.

I suggest looking at two possible options. First is to have your tiler create a tiled threshold section, that would be generally a concrete threshold with tiles above it. My best advice would be to make sure that it has an adequate fall so that water does not travel back into the house.

The second option is to have a timber sill installed under your sliding door. This gives you a nice natural contrast to the tiles and brick that is around the area.
