Good evening! I am looking to DIY a tile table top. A few questions. What type of ply should I use? I’m thinking of making it about 1800 x 1000. Would two of these legs support this?
TIA
Hello @zpay27
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about building a tiled outdoor table.
I would suggest using 2440 x 1220mm 12mm Plywood Hardwood Marine AA Grade. However, plywood by itself will not be enough to support the tile on the surface. Without a frame to support the plywood, it will bend and curve, and the tile gaps will crack and tiles pop off. I suggest building a timber frame to support the plywood, I recommend using https://www.bunnings.com.au/70-x-35mm-outdoor-framing-h3-treated-pine-2-4m_p8032103 . To tile above the plywood, I suggest using https://www.bunnings.com.au/james-hardie-2-88m-villaboard-lining-2400-x-1200-x-6mm_p0714174 . My best advice is to use at least three of the metal legs to properly support the table.
I also recommend having a quick look at these discussions:
If the table is to be left outside uncovered for an extended period, I suggest sealing the top with https://www.bunnings.com.au/cpc-220ml-shower-plug-sealant_p1585225 .
Please remember to wear personal protection such as gloves and goggles
