How to revive Hardenbergia with yellow leaves and grow on trellis?

I have two Hardenbergia and have a couple of questions around it.

* the first plant has yellow/orange leaves. I started using the Yates thrive all purpose natural fish & seaweed, hopefully it will help?
* the second plant - I’m not sure why the stem is not attached to the trellis even after I have tied the stem against the trellis . It just keep growing upwards but not around the trellis. How do I train it to grow around the trellis?

Yes, the change in weather can definitely play a part. As we head into the cooler months, it’s quite common for Hardenbergia to show some yellowing or bronzing of older leaves. Temperature drops, shorter days, and increased moisture in the soil can all contribute to a bit of seasonal stress, even in established plants.

Since yours has been in the ground since late last year, it’s likely still settling in, and these seasonal shifts can make that more noticeable. As long as the new growth is coming through healthy and green, there’s usually nothing to worry about.

On the trellis side, it sounds like you're on the right track. Sometimes individual plants just behave a bit differently depending on their position, light, or even slight differences in structure. Keep gently guiding it, and it should start to take hold over time.

i planted the first plant in the ground since Nov/Dec if Im not mistaken, so quite surprised that the leaves suddenly turn yellow/orange . Could it also be due to the change weather?

alright I will continue to tie stems around the trellis. I didn’t had any issue with the first plant so was curious to know why it was happening on my second plant.

You’ve got a really nice setup there, and your Hardenbergia are off to a good start. From the photo, both plants look generally healthy, so the issues you’re noticing are quite common and manageable.

For the first plant with the yellow and orange leaves, a small amount of leaf colour change is quite normal, especially as the plant settles into a new position. It’s often a sign of mild transplant stress or the plant adjusting to its soil and watering conditions rather than anything serious. The fertiliser you’ve started using, like the Yates Thrive Natural All-Purpose Fish & Seaweed, is a good, gentle option that supports both plant health and soil biology. It’s best to use it lightly, about every couple of weeks, rather than heavily. The main thing to watch is that the soil drains well and isn’t staying too wet, as Hardenbergia prefer free-draining conditions. If the new growth continues to come through green and healthy, then the plant is heading in the right direction.

For the second plant, what you’re seeing is completely normal behaviour for Hardenbergia. It’s a twining climber, which means it doesn’t cling or stick to surfaces like ivy. Instead, it needs something relatively thin that it can wrap its stems around. Because the trellis grid is fairly wide, the plant doesn’t naturally grab onto it and will continue growing upward rather than winding across. The best way to guide it is to gently wrap the stems around the wire yourself in a loose spiral and secure them temporarily with soft ties. Over time, as the plant grows, it will start to twine on its own. You can also make things easier for it by adding some horizontal string lines across the trellis, which gives it thinner supports to latch onto and helps it fill out more evenly.

Overall, you’re on the right track. With consistent watering, light feeding, and a bit of guidance on the trellis, both plants should establish well and start to thrive.
