How to replace kitchen floor tiles and match height?

Question

Hi, I am going to replace old kitchen including the floor tiles from 2004. Tiles have many chips. I do not have any spare, so I am looking an advice about the height of tiles made at arround 2004 to choose the right new tiles. Now there are tiles 200x200mm. There is a connection to metal items / I do not know the right name/ between tiles and the carpet. It is only a smal area od 4m2. Any advice and opinion? Thank you.

Thank you for sharing your question about your floor tiles. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to upgrade your tiled floor. Tile height will depend on the size and type of floor tile you use it can vary from 8mm to 10mm thick. Plus, adding the tile adhesive will give you another 6mm to 8mm of thickness. Generally speaking, this is what you would find in your tiled floor. It all depends on the current tile thickness that you have and the amount of tile adhesive that was used at the time.

However, the good news is that there are a large variety of floor tiles you can choose from, and you can install the same size such as 200mm x 200mm such as the

as an example. But you also have the choice to install bigger tiles such as the

The metal piece you are seeing between your tile and the carpet is called a transition piece; it provides an orderly transition from carpet to tile and gives it a tidy finish to the ends of the flooring substrates. When the old tiles are removed that transition piece will need to be replaced. My best advice is to visit your local store and have a look at the flooring tiles available. I suggest picking at least three tiles and see if you can purchase them individually. Bring the tiles home and test it in your kitchen to see if it works with your planned colour scheme.
