Sallie's low-cost laundry makeover is a great example of her practical approach, combining a modest budget with clear vision. Based in Toowoomba Queensland, Sallie transformed the laundry in the kit home she and her husband built under an owner-builder licence, achieving a great result for $1000.
Rather than rely on custom joinery, Sallie worked with off-the-shelf Practa and flat-pack cabinetry from Bunnings and focused on the details that would lift the room.
Painted joinery, a soft green finish, vertically laid tiles, a hanging rail and woven baskets helped turn a purely functional area into a calmer, more character-filled space.
What makes the project especially relatable is the way it balances style with everyday use. Sallie designed the laundry to sit comfortably with the rest of the home’s “modern cottage kind of vibe”, with feature walls of VJ panelling throughout, complemented by a Shaker-style kitchen.
Practical touches like open drying space and hidden baskets make it easier to keep the room looking neat.
