Hi team,

I’ve seen some repair advice for paint that has stripped off the wall and for holes that went through all the way to the back. My one is just right through the paper and several mm of gyprock. And some of them just the surface underneath the paper. Especially for the biggest repair needed, the one where some of the gyprock came off, could anyone advice if all i have to do is use spackle to fill in the little dent? Actually anyone who can help me with steps will be so much appreciated.

The basic process is to tidy things up so that there is no more lifting paper, then fill with a topping compound before sanding, priming and painting.

I will add one extra step that wasn't mentioned in this article, which is to apply a shellac-based primer such as this https://www.bunnings.com.au/zinsser-369g-b-i-n-primer-sealer-stain-blocker-aerosol_p1561720 to the patch prior to applying your topping compound. Shellac based primer, which is alcohol based, helps prevent bubbling on plasterboard because it does not introduce moisture that can soften and lift the paper face. It also seals the surface, stopping moisture from topping compounds from being absorbed and causing blisters. This is not strictly necessary on smaller patches, but with slightly larger stuff like yours it is a good step that will help to reduce issues of bubbling and blistering.

After applying your topping compound, you can use the same shellac based primer before painting.
