my house is about 50 years old. Gaps have been showing up since the last 2 years. Not sudden ones, just gradual ones. Can anyone suggest some ideas in filling up these gaps?
Hi @AlanS5,
Step 1 is to clean out the gaps and remove any loose material. This is usually easiest using a combination of a vacuum cleaner and a tool to agitate things such as this https://www.bunnings.com.au/oates-soft-grip-grout-brush_p0064627 .
Once clean, you can simply fill the gaps with some silicone such as this https://www.bunnings.com.au/sika-300ml-light-grey-no49-davco-n-silicone-neutral-cure_p0699897 , which is a light grey to match the tiles and grout.
As the gaps appear to be quite deep, it would also be worth pushing an appropriately sized gap filler rod into them prior to silicone. This will more or less just take up space in the gap so you don't have to fill the full depth with silicone, which can be quite costly.
Once the silicone has been applied, smooth it over with a https://www.bunnings.com.au/qep-grout-and-sealant-smoother_p6650140 , removing any excess as you go.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
