How to upgrade rangehood?

Hi,

We just upgraded our 60cm electric hob to a 90cm induction hob. Now the rangehood is too small for the new cooktop, and severely underpowered. I want to upgrade to an external motor rangehood too. Which tradie do I contact to do the full upgrade for me? Carpenter? Builder? Joinery? Cabinet maker? Some other person? Combination of trades? Photo attached for reference.

Hi @samwaw,

If your new rangehood is wider than the current one, then you would need to modify the cabinets, in which case you would need to speak to a cabinet maker.

For the rangehood installation itself, you would typically be looking at an electrician.

In saying this, it may be worth simply googling "Rangehood installation near me" and seeing what businesses come up. Oftentimes, businesses will have multiple different trades as part of their team, so a single company may be able to do everything, which will certainly streamline the process and likely reduce its cost.

If you reach out to a business that specialises in rangehood installation, just mention that some modifications would likely need to be made to your cabinetry. If they do not have someone on staff to assist, I am sure they would have contacts that they can recommend, or that they subcontract work to.
