How to install pool compliant gate on bricks?

Hi.

I have removed the white fence and need a compliant gate to install. I have to do it on my own, what do you recommend to get the door fixed on the bricks and wood? What would be the cheapest yet compliant materials? I had a look at the other posts so maybe timber is the way to go? Thank you.

The first thing to be aware of is that pool compliance requirements can vary depending on your state and local council, so it’s worth speaking with a local pool certifier before you start. They can confirm exactly what needs to be done to bring everything up to standard, as it’s often more than just the gate itself.

I mention this because the fence to the right of the current gate has flat rails, which are almost certainly non-compliant as they would allow a child to climb the fence. Angled timber battens are often added to the top of fence rails to remove the ability to climb.

Having an idea of what you need to do elsewhere is worth doing because it can have implications on how your gate will be installed, so I'd suggest it is worth speaking with a pool certifier early on to save yourself extra work down the line.

While requirements can vary slightly by location, in situations where a boundary fence forms part of the barrier, you’re generally looking at a minimum height of 1800 mm.

They would be attached to anything metal with tek screws, anything timber with hex head timber screws and into brick using the same timber screws with masonry plugs.

Also keep in mind that pool gates must be fitted with compliant hardware, including self-closing hinges and a self-latching mechanism, with the latch positioned at the required height and located so it can’t be easily reached from outside the barrier.

I don't mean to deter you as everything is definitely doable yourself; it is just important that everything is done to the correct standard, and with pools, this usually means more work than people initially think. So, for this reason, I'd say you should definitely speak with a pool certifier prior to selecting materials or commencing work as they will be able to point out what needs to be rectified and what would be required. This will help to streamline the process and ensure you are selecting materials that are compliant.
