Just wondering how I can repair this paling fence?
Hi @Kerri2,
There doesn’t look to be a huge amount wrong structurally from what I can see. Is there a specific issue you’re trying to fix?
It mainly looks like that edge paling has warped and pulled away, which is pretty common over time. If the timber is still solid (not soft or rotted), the simplest fix is to pull it back in with a couple of screws into the post beside it. Pre-drill first to avoid splitting, then drive the screws in to draw the board tight. This should reduce that gap quite a bit.
If the timber has gone too far (cracked, badly twisted, or brittle), then replacement is really the proper fix. Just be aware that swapping it out might be a bit more involved here, especially since it looks like the fence ties into a masonry wall, which can limit access.
Start with pulling it back in, as there’s a good chance that’ll tidy it up enough without turning it into a bigger job.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
