Hi there,
I have a patio area with three surrounding walls, and I’m planning to build a lean-to pergola with two posts at the front, while attaching the back and side beams to the walls.
As shown in the photo, the left wall is brick and has plenty of space to fix a beam directly. My concern is the back wall and the right side wall — most of these areas are weatherboard, and they’re not flush with the brick wall (there’s about a 100mm gap).
What would be the best way to build a pergola in this situation?
So far I’ve thought of a few options:
- Use fascia brackets and avoid fixing to the wall, but that would make the pergola quite high and a bit harder to build
- Build it as a fully freestanding structure with 4 posts, but one corner has a downpipe, so installing a post there isn’t very practical
- Fix the beam to the wall using spacer blocks to bridge the 100mm gap
Would really appreciate any suggestions or advice. Thanks in advance!
