How to drill stump to treat termites?

Hi there,

Could you please recommend a drill bit (preferably with a link) suitable for drilling into a stump for termite treatment?

I bought one yesterday but had to return it because the shank was too large to fit my drill. It seems I need a reduced shank type.

I’m looking for something around 16 mm diameter and about 200 mm in length.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Hi @emmab1986,

This bit has a 7/16-inch shank, which is a little bit larger than 11mm, so it should fit just fine.

I'm sure the team in the Tool Shop at your local store would have a drill handy to double check if you needed to.

Thanks for your response.

Our drill has a standard 13 mm chuck. Could you please confirm whether the Sutton Tools 290 × 16 mm auger bit has a shank that will fit a 13 mm chuck?

Hi @emmab1986,

Assuming you have a standard drill with a 3-jaw chuck or an impact driver with a collet, then you can use this

Just make sure to grip the drill firmly with two hands, using a secondary handle if you have one and set your feet before drilling as large drill bits like this can bite hard, which trust me, can really hurt your wrists.

If you have a battery drill, you'll also want to ensure you have a fully charged battery as the torque required to rotate the drill bit through the stump will be relatively high.
