Can I use spraypaint on deck roofing timber?

Hi, I need to replace deck roofing sheets. I want to paint roofing timber to monument black before I change roofing panels to save time on painting prep.

Do you think I can spray paint them or should i use brush and roller instead for better result?

I also have same question for screen used on the side of the deck.

You can definitely spray the timber, but I wouldn’t recommend using pressure-pack spray cans for this type of job. They’re not really suited to longer lengths or larger surface areas and can end up being patchy and time-consuming.

Before painting, it’s worth spending a bit of time on prep. From your photos, it looks like there’s some mildew on the timber, so I’d suggest giving it a clean with a good exterior cleaner like 30 Seconds and a stiff-bristle broom to remove it. After that, a quick wash down with Sugar Soap and a rinse with fresh water will help ensure a clean surface.

Once everything is dry, you can go ahead and coat it with a suitable exterior paint such as Dulux Weathershield for good durability.
