What's the best way to fill in or repair this hole in the ceiling? I had the bedroom light removed and fan installed, but the light cutout was larger than required for the fan, leaving a partial gap as shown.
Hi @dlyb,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.
The process for repairing this hole will be much the same as what is shown in https://www.bunnings.com.au/diy-advice/diy-skills/repairing/how-to-repair-a-large-hole-in-plasterboard . All of the required items are shown in this article.
You'll start by adding some back blocking to the hole to act as an anchor point for a new piece of plasterboard. You will then screw a new piece of plasterboard into the hole, then tape and plaster the joins. Once taped and plastered, sand the plaster smooth, then prime and paint.
Considering the proximity to electrical cables, it would be wise to turn off the power at your switchboard prior to commencing work, and if you are concerned, considering speaking with a handy person for assistance with this.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
