How to repair a chainsaw that is cutting in a curve?

I'm very pleased with our new Ryobi 18"/45cm chainsaw (RCS36HP).

After a few days very heavy work cutting fence posts, it is cutting in a curve making it jam on larger posts. I'm not sure if the bar or chain needs replacing. Any advice?

I was going to replace both, but I can't find an 18" bar on the Bunnings catalogue, only the chain. How can I order a bar?

There is only a very small bend in the bar (0.5mm over the full length) so I’ll just try a new chain as you suggested.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us and it is excellent to hear you are happy with your new 36V Ryobi Chainsaw.

Just to narrow things down, do you notice any visible curve or bend in the bar when the saw is not in use, or does the issue only show up while cutting? Sometimes what feels like a bent bar can actually only be happening under load.

One common cause is a dull or unevenly worn chain, which can pull the saw to one side. A dull chain can also inadvertently cause you to force the saw through the timber which can lead to blade deflection which could also be the cause of that curved cut you are describing.

If the bar itself looks straight, then you could start with replacing the chain with a fresh one. This

is what you would use. I'd give the new chain a try, ensuring you let the chain do the work and don't force the cut.

If the bar indeed has a curve in it when it is not under load, I suggest you speak with the Special Orders desk at your local store or directly with our Spare Parts team, who will be able to assist with ordering a new bar.
