I went to lock the front door but the key broke when in the locked position. The lock is a Gainsborough lock. If the key is broken, how can I remove the lock?

I'm sorry to hear that your key has broken inside the lock. I recommend trying to remove the key first before changing the lock. I suggest using a long nose plier to see if you can grab a part of the broken key to pull it out. Please make sure that the key is back to its straight upright position, otherwise the key will be under tension, and you'll not be able to pull it out.
My second suggestion is to use some https://www.bunnings.com.au/boyle-hot-melt-glue-sticks-8pcs_p0322566 . Heat up one end of the glue stick and push it against the broken end of the key. Make sure that the glue stick has fully cooled down before attempting to pull it out. The only other tool I can suggest is to use a https://www.bunnings.com.au/craftright-4-piece-hook-and-pick-set_p6120228 to slowly pull the key out. Should you manage to get the key out, I suggest bringing both the broken head and body of the key to the store and have it duplicated.
Your key is currently inside the deadbolt cylinder; it can be easily replaced by unscrewing the screws next to the keyhole. The deadbolt assembly can then be taken apart. If you get a similar deadbolt set it should fit in the hole that has already been drilled in your door. Please note that the latch will need to be replaced as well. Crisis averted. I got a pair of needle nose pliers and pulled the key out. The key had been flush with the lock but as there was a little indent where the key is inserted, it gave me the room to put the tip of the pliers in just enough to pull out the key.
