How to fix notches missing on Ryobi Multitool?

I was using my Ryobi Multitool the other day to cut a notch in a timber trim and it seemed to be smoking after only a short burst. On closer examination it looks like the notches where the blade sits are..well..missing. Not sure what I've done but have I ruined my Multitool?? It was bought at Bunnings so not sure what recourse I have under guarantee with Ryobi. Help!

Upon closer examination it appears that your head is in good condition. The notches appear to be proud of the head and don't look worn down. I've placed a sample photo below of the blade attached. You'll notice that the blade sits flush with the notches. If the blade were loose or a bit of debris got caught between them the friction could have caused it to heat up and smoke.

I propose testing the head with the blade attached one more time. If the blade can swing loosely while the lock is attached perhaps it could be the locking nut that is not attached properly or could be at fault.
