How to mount sheer curtain track to plasterboard ceiling?

Hi,

I am planning to install ceiling mount sheer and blockout curtain to my bedroom windows and looking for the following.

* The anchor type for the ceiling which is a gyprock (standard ceiling material)
* How I should cut the track to match the width of the window.

Just wondering how you ended up going with the curtain installation. Did you manage to locate ceiling joists for the track mounting, or did you end up using plasterboard toggles instead?

As a priority, I would first recommend trying to locate any timber ceiling joists in the installation area and mounting the curtain track directly into those using suitable timber screws. This will provide the strongest and most secure fixing for both sheer and blockout curtains. Plasterboard fixings should really only be used where solid timber cannot be found in the required mounting location.

If there is no timber available where the track needs to be installed, the next best option would be expanding spring plasterboard toggles. These expand behind the plasterboard and provide a much larger area of support compared to standard wall plugs, making them more suitable for ceiling-mounted curtain tracks.

Regarding cutting the track, this will depend on the specific type and brand of track you purchase. Many tracks can be cut down to size using a fine-tooth hacksaw, but it is important to confirm the manufacturer’s instructions first. I would recommend taking careful measurements of the window width and then accurately transferring those measurements onto the track before cutting to ensure a neat fit.
