How to repair water damage to large MDF sliding doors?

I need to repair these mdf sliding doors without removing them. They are large sliding mdf doors and there has been water damage at some stage which has caused the swelling. I have seen videos of it being cut and sanded back and then using a liquid glue solution to instantly harden the mdf fibers followed by sanding, then applying a filler/repainting.

Would this be the best approach? What products would work best?

Hi @justcalljacko,

I was curious whether you ended up tackling the repair on those MDF sliding doors and how the damaged sections responded once you started sanding them back.

Water-damaged MDF can sometimes surprise you depending on how deep the swelling goes, so I’d be interested to hear whether the hardener and filler approach worked out or whether the damage ended up being more extensive than expected.

If you’re still working through it or want a second opinion before painting, feel free to post an update. Would also be great to see how the repair came up if you’ve made some progress with it.
