How to reattach a towel rack in the same place?

Question

One of the towel racks on the back of our door had ripped out.

Ideally I’d like to just reattach it in the same spot is there a simple way to patch the hole or something so it’s strong enough to screw into? Or another solution that isn’t too complicated

Or is my option patching the hole, re painting the door and attaching it in a different part of the door

There were some really practical suggestions shared above, especially around using toggle fixings or relocating the rail onto a fresh section of the door.

Curious to hear which option you ended up going with and whether the towel rack has held up well since the repair.

if there is no solid portion of the door, i would run a MDF of 5 cm wide along the horizontal length of the door at the top. Attach MDF to the solid portion of door and then attach rail to any posiiton of the MDF. You would need to paint MDF for a better look.
