How to fix chipping around vanity drain and tap?

Hi everyone,

The seal around the drain of my bathroom vanity sink looks like its chipping away. I can also see the vanity finish chipping away under my tap. Any advice on how to fix this? Im open to replacing the drain if I need to but am hoping I can DIY either way!

It seems like the issue is not so much with the waste, but with the porcelain coating on your sink which has started chipping beneath the waste and tap body. Unfortunately, when this porcelain coating begins to chip, there isn't a perfect way to repair it and because of this, replacement of the sink would be the best solution long term.

In saying this, some minor cosmetic repairs can be made using this https://www.bunnings.com.au/rust-oleum-13-3ml-white-tub-and-tile-touch-up-kit_p0396412 , although it would require the assistance of a plumber to remove and reinstall the waste and tap bodies to get the cleanest repair possible.

Once your plumber has removed the tap and waste bodies, you would clean and prep the areas in line with Rustoleum's instructions before applying the epoxy coating, ensuring you allow sufficient drying time before having your plumber reinstall the waste and tap body.

If you were careful and taped the waste and tap bodies to protect them, you may be able to get away with doing the repair without removing the waste and tap body, but it would be difficult to get as clean a repair as if you had a plumber assist.
