How to ensure manual tilt garage door stays open?

I have a manual tilt garage door that does not stay open (unclear if it ever has). We are planning to replace the whole freestanding garage at some point but until then, what would be the best solution to be able to manually open and close it so that a car can be parked? It is definitely off-balance which is why motorising it is not an option.

If an older manual tilt door won’t stay open, it’s most likely that the spring tension needs adjusting. Most of these doors have multiple adjustment holes on the spring arms/brackets, so it can probably be re-tensioned to hold itself open properly again.

That said, the springs on tilt doors are under significant tension and can be dangerous if adjusted incorrectly. Because of that, I’d strongly recommend having a garage door professional do the adjustment rather than attempting it yourself.

Once correctly balanced, the door should open and stay up by itself.
