I would like to plant this in a bigger pot. What can I do with this outgrown root?

That long root is an aerial root, which is completely normal for a Monstera and actually a sign that your plant is healthy and growing well. When you repot it into a larger container, you can gently tuck the root into the new soil if youโd like, and it may eventually grow into a regular underground root that helps support the plant. You can also leave it hanging naturally, since Monsteras use aerial roots to climb and absorb moisture from the air.
If youโre planning to add a moss pole or support stake, this root can even be guided into the pole to encourage larger leaves and more upright growth. If it feels awkward or gets in the way, you can trim it with clean scissors without harming the plant. Since your Monstera is getting bigger, this is a great time to repot it into a pot just one or two sizes larger using a chunky, well-draining soil mix, and adding support will help it thrive even more.

Do you have any Monstera @mich1972? I'm sure our members would love to see if you do. I have a few, though for years, I've found it difficult to find a location where they would thrive. I get very little sunlight through my windows. They tend to slowly decline in health, and I can only put my finger on there not being quite enough light. Recently, though, we established an area outside under a 50% shadecloth. We've found they are very happy there. Mitchell
No I used too Mitchell but not anymore. They are great outside under the patio , even in early morning sun, indoors with good light. They certainly thrive growing up on a totem pole. I think I might have to grow one again ๐๐ฟ

Hi Mitchell, yes, thanks for asking. I replanted it in a bigger pot and it seems to have adapted well so far in his new pot. Its living on my covered deck so it's not getting any rain. Im letting it dry out between watering and it seems to like that.
