How to paint plastic Jack Matrix lattice?

I want to install this at my house but want it in manor red (to match our colour scheme)

Can it be painted and how would I go about doing this (i.e., could I use acrylic paint, or would it have to be primed; would there be expansion issues if it heats up/cools down)? What base colour should I get it in if I plan to paint over it?

Thanks for sharing your question about painting a https://www.bunnings.com.au/jack-matrix-2410-x-1205-x-7mm-charcoal-classic-diamond-lattice_p0029016 . The Jack Matrix lattice is made of polypropylene, it is extremely hard to paint because it is a low-surface-energy plastic, meaning its molecules lack polarity. This makes the surface naturally inert and highly resistant to wetness, liquids simply bead up instead of spreading, resulting in paint that has nothing to grip and will easily flake or peel off.

We've been asked this question before, and our supplier has mentioned that they can't make any guarantees how long the paint would last if you painted the surface.

However, if you would like to make the attempt, I suggest lightly scuffing the piece with a fine-grit sandpaper (400-600 grit) or a https://www.bunnings.com.au/scotch-brite-155-x-100mm-heavy-duty-scourer-pad-6-pack_p4460588 . This removes the factory gloss and adds microscopic grooves for the primer to grip. You must be very thorough as any section missed will result in a surface that is not prepared and paint will not anchor onto it. Wash the entire surface with a strong grease cutting liquid soap while using the scourer pad. Make sure to use warm water to rinse the surface, but do not use hot boiling water as it will deform the plastic.

Allow the lattice to fully 100% dry before painting, I propose looking at using https://www.bunnings.com.au/white-knight-300g-white-plastic-primer-spray-paint_p0807464 . Apply in thin coats and let the primer cure before applying a second layer. Once the primer has totally cured you can then put on your choice of topcoat.

Please make sure to use personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a paint rated mask when spraying the lattice panel.
