I started sanding door frames with an orbital sander. It is extremely built up with paint (it's a 95 year old house) I don't think it's ever been sanded before repainted over. It started warping the frame shape so i stopped. Whats the best way to do this quickly other than buying a new frame? or is that the best solution?
Hi @marissawendt,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.
My suggestion would be to use a paint stripper such as https://www.bunnings.com.au/poly-1l-polystrippa-paint-stripper-1l_p1715074 to remove the paint, ensuring you open all nearby windows to allow for ventilation, as well as wear gloves, protective clothing and a mask to protect yourself while using the stripper.
Once the stripper has been applied and given time to take effect, the paint can be scraped off using a https://www.bunnings.com.au/100mm-sharp-edge-paint-scraper_p1670156 , following around the radius of the timber. This process can be repeated multiple times until the bulk of the material has been removed.
Once the paint has been removed, you can continue sanding, but in a much gentler fashion as the objective is just to smooth and prepare the timber, not remove paint, so you won't need to apply as much pressure.
You can then brush away any saw dust before priming and painting the door frame.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
