How to repair damaged bottom corner of door?

Hi Everyone,

The bottom edge of my laundry door is chipped. This happened as the transition strip got loose and repeatedly scrapped against the door edge and damaged it.

I have reattached the transition strip but would like to repair and repaint the door edge as well. I would ideally like to repair it without removing the entire door from the hinges.

Would anyone please be able to advise on the best method/products to fix it?

Hi @Adrenaline06,

Yes, that primer would be perfectly fine for this application.

Functionally, either a paint brush or roller will work, but a roller will do a better job of matching the texture on the door.

I'd say a small foam roller like this

Thanks @JacobZ. That sounds like an easy enough repair.

Just a couple of additional things if you can help clarify them please.

Can I use this product to prime before painting as I already have a tub of it.

Secondly, for the paint coats do you advise using a brush or roller? I am leaning towards a narrow brush as it’s a small section.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.

You should be able to make a repair without taking the door down without too much difficulty.

Start by removing any loose material and giving it a quick sand with some

to smooth and even out the surface. You won't have to do much sanding, just enough so that any of the flaking material has been removed so there is an even surface to apply your filler to.

You can then apply some

to the damaged area using a flat tool such as a

. Builders bog is quite thick, so you can press it on and shape it quite easily. Once it has set, you can give it a sand with the same 120 grit sandpaper, brush away any sanding dust, then prime and paint it to match the door.

It's a very achievable repair that doesn't take many tools or a lot of experience.
