How to paint a rusty roof to last 5 years?

I have an old rental house with a thick corrugated iron roof that needs attention. I only need the job to last another 5 or so years as the house will be demolished when I sell the block of land to a developer - so reasonable cost/ work rather than a best job.

The roof has lines of rust over most of it but all surface only. I was planning on giving it a light waterblast to hopefully clean & get the mossy stuff off. Then

I'd like to put rust converter on it using a small sprayer. I see Dulux has a converter and primer in one which seems handy but can it be sprayed on? Is it a able to be thinned to go through a sprayer? Has anyone used this on a roof? Or would I be better off using a liquid converter then a primer? i'm doing the job myself so 'Easy' would be good.

I'll be borrowing a large sprayer to do the painting.

All suggestions would be appreciated as this is my first time at a job like this.

Before proceeding, it's worth noting that roof restoration and coating systems are quite different from standard painting projects. Roofs are exposed to much harsher conditions than most other parts of a home, including constant UV exposure, temperature fluctuations, rain and moisture, so the preparation requirements and coating compatibility are critical to achieving a lasting result, even if you're only looking for another five years of service.

With this being said, we've investigated similar projects in the past and the consistent advice from our paint suppliers has been to contact their technical support departments, as they will be able to guide you through the process much better than we can as an intermediary.

For this reason, I'd suggest you give Dulux's technical support team a call on 13 25 25 if you are in Australia and 0800 800 424 if you are in New Zealand. They will be best placed to guide you with this project.

In the meantime, a thorough clean and removal of as much loose rust as possible will be an important first step. While a pressure washer can help remove dirt, lichen and loose material, you'll likely still need to mechanically remove rust using a wire brush, scraper or grinder before applying any rust treatment.

It would be best to speak with the team at Dulux about what kind of rust converter is best based on the system that they have advised. They will also be able to advise whether it is compatible with your paint sprayer.
