How to fix kinked sink mixer flexihose?

Hi,

I just purchased a replacement Mondella Kitchen Sink Mixer with the usual flexihoses

(cold and hot) - lengths are std 350mm.

Hot water fitted ok - pressure good - no leak.

Cold water a bit kinked with reduced pressure (and no leak). Have tried to minimise/eliminate kink but no luck. When I move the flexihose water pressure drops away entirely.

It appears hose is too long (probably need 200mm or 250mm to eliminate kink).

Does Mondella (or other suppliers) provide such hoses?

If not how do I get rid of this kink so pressure is normal (like the hot water side)?

Appreciate any advice.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.

I am assuming that your mixer hoses are the style, with one threaded end and a barbed end that push fits into the mixer housing. Like this https://www.bunnings.com.au/enduraseal-500mm-silver-premium-flexible-braided-water-mixer-hose_p0422483 . Would that be correct?

If so, then unfortunately, I have had a good look and can't find any options that come at that shortened length.

So, without contacting a plumber for assistance, I think the best thing we can do is look at how the hose is routed and see if there is anything we can do along that line to unkink the hose.

Is it possible to get some photos showing the current routing of the hose so we can see if a simple modification to the space, or a routing angle you haven't thought of that might make things a bit smoother?

Unfortunately, if there is nothing simple, you may need to speak with a plumber.

Yes, that kink definitely looks like it would be causing some issues.

Have you tried a different route, noting that it is a pressurised hose, so it can hang down below the threaded connection without any real reduction in pressure.

I'd try turning the water off, disconnecting the cold hose, then routing it more towards the location of the camera. It looks like you might be able to make the angle much less severe if it is routed differently.

Keep in mind that the hose connection to the mixer tap is not as fixed because it doesn't rely on a thread. If the kink is coming about when you tighten the threaded end on, try rotating the end that goes into the mixer. This might help to remove the kink.

Looking at your photo, I think the solution is already there somewhere, you just have to play around a little bit to find it. Just remember to be safe and isolate the water supply while you are doing anything and if you aren't confident, contact a plumber.

No such luck.

The kink is still there no matter what I try.

To be clear, the kink is minor and restricts the cold water only marginally (approx 10%).Having said that, should I be worried and maybe call a plumber?The work would involve him resitting both the cold and hot water pipes approx 50mm lower (i.e. by cutting off 50mm from the flexihose connection inlet.This is messy and would involve considerable cost.

FYI: I have replaced these flexihoses before (like for like) with no problems.

Also currently there are no leaks.

Is it worth it?

Unfortunately, as we are unable to supply a shorter hose, contacting a plumber for assistance is the only real option we can recommend.

They may be able to adjust the existing hose or pipes, or potentially direct you towards where you could source a shorter hose.

Please note that plumbing work needs to be completed by a licensed professional for safety and compliance. This includes the installation of taps and their flexi-hoses.

Having a kinked hose is certainly a concern, risks shortening its lifespan and can lead to failure points. There should never be kinks in a flexi-hose. I would recommend you reach out to a plumber who would likely have access to the shorter hose you need.

Hi @Tom.m

Have you tried undoing the hose from the pipe fitting and then twisting the fitting a couple of turns more in the same direction before screwing it back on as this should take some of the twist out of the finished job.
