I have a strip of glass mosaic feature tiles in my bathroom that I don’t like as they’re so outdated. There’s a strip in the shower and a strip above my bathtub. I don’t want to do a full bathroom renovation, but would like to get rid of these tiles. Will I be able to do this? Can I paint or retire or is it easiest to just leave them?
Hi @tahnim,
The least impactful option here would be to paint the tiles with a product such as the Dulux Renovation Range Tiles & Benchtops paint. It can be a great way to tone down an outdated feature strip without the expense and disruption of a full bathroom renovation.
While it is possible to remove the mosaic tiles and replace them with something more modern, I'd be cautious about doing so in a shower or wet area. Removing tiles will often damage the waterproofing membrane behind them, and reinstating waterproofing is typically a much larger project than most people anticipate. In many cases, patch repairs to waterproofing aren't possible, meaning a more extensive renovation may be required to bring the area back up to standard.
For that reason, painting the feature tiles is likely to be your simplest and most cost-effective option. Once painted to match or complement the surrounding tiles, the feature strip should blend in significantly and become much less noticeable. Here's a helpful step-by-step guide: How to paint tiles.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi @tahnim
Well it would appear I chose outdated tiles when I built just a few years ago (I've got the same and I chose them), You can at best paint them as the cost of making the area good after removing them would be prohibitive as you would probably damage the waterproofing membrane in your shower/bathroom and fixing that would be a specialist job.
