Trying to replace the cartridge in a single lever mixer tap. The cartridge has disintegrated when removed and the bottom plastic is stuck fast to the tap ware body. Any ideas on how to remove this so that the new cartridge can be installed? Thanks

Please note that plumbing work needs to be completed by a licensed professional for safety and compliance.
Using a sharp tool such as a small chisel might dislodge the plastic housing stuck at the bottom, but there is the danger that it will damage the base finish of the mixer tap which will cause it to leak. Another option is to use a heat gun to soften the plastic, and you can then use a screwdriver to lift one edge of the plastic.
However, in this particular instance even if you were able to remove the bottom assembly it's very likely that the tap base is coated with lime deposits that will be uneven and will not allow the new cartridge to sit flat properly. Rather than taking a chance with a defective tap base, I recommend having your tap replaced with a new one such as the https://www.bunnings.com.au/mondella-cadenza-40mm-chrome-lever-swivel-basin-mixer_p0670049 . Please note that changing tapware is considered regulated plumbing work and it would need to be carried out by a licensed plumber.
