Looking for advise on painting over old tiles in our toilet. Initially I prepped the area by thorough cleaning with detergent and a solvent rag over the tiles. Once dry, I painted 2 coats of the Quickpave tinted with Haymes Pale Mushroom 5 but within months the paint started chipping off, see pics. It chipped off the surface of the tiles but not the grouted areas between the tiles. I have now hand scraped most of the paint off, a slow painful job. Regarding the grout, I managed to remove some areas completely while other areas (majority) the grout either won't budge or partially scrapes out.
As an end product, I want to cover the tiles with something that looks good and won't chip easily. The tiles themselves are in excellent condition, apart from the psychedelic colour and pattern! they are glossy irl. So, a few questions…
Does it matter if I don't remove all the grout?
Should I re-grout to fill in the gaps before prepping and or painting?
Is it worth priming before painting?
Assume the Quickpave paint is the right product?
I was thinking of going over the tiles with a paint stripper to remove as much paint as possible before painting. The paint shop suggested as long as the tiles were clean the Quickpave could be painted without a primer (also says this on the tin) but as you can see, that didn't work for me.
Thank you
