How to install a replacement window?

Hi All,

I am going to replace a window in my house, I have already bought a new window with the same dimensions.

I am curious if anyone could provide guidance on how to install the new window / what materials I will need.

Hi @Anthony068,

Generally, you would seal around a window with a product like

, but I would suggest double checking with the manufacturer before doing so as sometimes windows are designed so the bottom edge is left unsealed to allow any water that gets in behind to drain.

Sealing the sides and top is normal, but sometimes window manufacturers will want the bottom edge to be left unsealed. It would be worth double checking to be sure.

Thanks @EricL !

Just sorted the window out and dry fifitted  the new one. The only question I have is how to seal the window so water doesn’t enter the cavity between the bricks and timber frame.

Should I simply just seal this exterior perimeter with something like Sika flex or is there a better product? I will add a timber piece at the top.
