How to install puddle flange to 50mm DWV waste pipe?

Trying to marry up my puddle flange with my existing shower waste trap - it will have a 50mm MI adaptor attached to the trap itself, then a puddle flange cemented into the 50mm adaptor (which is DN50 - https://www.bunnings.com.au/holman-50mm-pvc-dwv-male-threaded-iron-adaptor_p4750158 ).

The kinetic 80x50mm ( https://www.bunnings.com.au/kinetic-80-x-50mm-puddle-flange-leak-control-socket-connector_p4770459 ) fit around the outside of the adaptor (see pic). This seems wrong, however, I'm using standard piping so I'm wondering if the puddle flange is designed this way for some reason (so as not to restrict the inside diameter of the pipe unnecessarily?).

Is this right? It does fit snug and will push all the way down onto the collar of the threading.
