any advice on how I could fix this mess
Thanks
Hello @24121984
Thank you for sharing your question about your benchtop. I propose cleaning the surface of the damaged area with detergent and water to remove the surface stains. It appears that the damage is much more serious as it has cracked the melamine surface of the benchtop. Generally speaking, there is no dedicated repair product that you can use to cover the surface.
However, you can temporarily patch the damage using https://www.bunnings.com.au/selleys-50g-knead-it-aqua-epoxy-putty_p1230080 . Mix a small batch in your hand and use it to cover the damaged sections of the benchtop. Please do not mix the entire container. Push the putty into the damaged sections and feather the surface with your thumb so that it does not form a mound and is close to the level of the benchtop.
Once the putty has fully cured, I suggest getting some paint sample pots in the colours of your benchtop. Using a steady hand and a brush you can slowly disguise the putty in the pattern of your benchtop.
For a more permanent fix, I can only recommend replacing the benchtop with a similar finish or totally replace the entire countertop with something new.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

HI @24121984,
What type of benchtop is it? I suspect it would be a laminate benchtop. To add to Eric's suggestion, if it is laminate, you can fill the area with Builder's Bog and sand the area smooth. You'd then be able to paint the whole benchtop with the Dulux Renovation range. Here's a helpful guide: How to paint a benchtop.
