looking for best filler for gap between aluminium sliding door and concrete wall on the interior.
The old one was cracked and started to crumble.
Thanks
Hi @Lou022,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.
There's a very good chance the reason the old filler cracked and crumbled is because the aluminium sliding door frame will, by virtue of having a door rolling on it, move around a little bit. If a rigid filler is applied up to something that moves, over time, it will crack and crumble as you have experienced.
I'd suggest using a filler that is suitable for use over concrete, such as this https://www.bunnings.com.au/selleys-435g-spakfilla-heavy-duty-interior-and-exterior-gap-filler_p1232218 . I'd suggest you apply it up to around 2-3mm away from the aluminium, sand it to match the smoothness of the wall, then seal the gap between the new filler and the aluminium with something flexible like https://www.bunnings.com.au/selleys-475g-no-more-gaps-interior-multipurpose-gap-filler_p1230010 . You can then paint over it to blend everything in with the wall.
This will give you the best of both worlds. It will make the wall surface look the same, as well as prevent the cracking from reoccuring.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
