How to install new pop-up basin waste that doesn't reach?

Had a leak in the bathroom vanity and found it to be where the pop-up mechanism connects to the basin. There was a lot of silicon to remove but did that successfully and bought a new unit from Bunnings however no matter what I try it doesn't reach the trap and is about 40 mm short of connecting. Any ideas?

Unfortunately, I'm unable to provide advice on carrying out regulated plumbing work due to safety and compliance requirements.

While a small modification may well resolve the issue, it would still be considered licensed plumbing work. If any damage were to occur as a result of unlicensed work, there could also be implications for insurance coverage.

For those reasons, I'd recommend engaging a licensed plumber, who will be able to assess the situation and advise on the most appropriate solution.

Thanks Jacob but what would a plumber do? I thought a small pipe extension might do the trick here and a licensed plumber was responsible for the mess that I'm stuck with now.

Please note that plumbing work needs to be completed by a licensed professional for safety and compliance.

Unfortunately, if the current trap setup does not work with the new waste, then the trap will need to be modified or replaced which is regulated plumbing work. The only solution here is to contact a plumber for assistance.
