How to fix a loose bath plug assembly?

Hello! My bath plug has come loose and I can pull the whole assembly out of the hole. I can see the large rubber doughnut seal and the pipe inside the drain, but it seems to be sitting too low. I can put the plug back in, but the doughnut seal is loose and not sealing properly.

I’m thinking I may need to lift the pipe and rubber seal up toward the underside of the bath so the seal sits flush against the hole, then reinsert the plug assembly to hold it all together. The problem is that the white three-prong plastic piece has snapped, and I can’t find a replacement at Bunnings.

Could anyone please tell me:

A. Whether I’m on the right track.
B. What product I need to replace it.
C. Whether I can use a chrome pop-up basin waste from Bunnings, or whether it needs to match my existing fixture exactly.

Thank you for sharing your question about your bath plug. Your bath plug looks very similar to the Plumdinger bath waste. The three-pronged holder is actually part of the waste assembly and can't be replaced. In this instance, it will be necessary to engage the services of a plumber as they will need to access the bottom of your bath and change the bath waste and replumb its connection.

Your plumber will also be able to tell if you need a 40mm or a 50mm bath waste. This will be dictated by the size of pipework you have underneath your bath. In general, any changes that involve moving or reconfiguring pipework would be considered regulated plumbing work and would need to be carried out by a licensed plumber.
