Good morning Workshop Community Friends, thought I’d share this with you as you may be having the same problem in your Garden. We have Grasshoppers large and small stripping our Apple trees and they also started on my Greenfeast Peas. But at the moment, Apple trees must be a delightful meal because they have chewed them up like crazy 🤦♀️
I am not too fussed at the moment as our Apple trees will defoliate soon as we head right into winter months. Actually it is beautiful winter weather here in Perth at the moment, lots of sunshine, great Gardening weather. I have been picking the grasshoppers off and feeding them to our Chickens. If you want to spray them, you can use Eco Neem Oil or Richgro Grasshopper and Caterpillar Spray, follow the directions and wear the appropriate safety gear. You can also cover your plants that are being attacked with netting. When you first see the damage, normally you would blame Caterpillars but that’s not always the case. When you’re in your garden and see damage like this, have a good look at the damage and you will see what is causing it. Hopefully this helps, enjoy your garden everyone 🙂🌿

I have to say, those grasshoppers look enormous! They must breed them bigger over in WA. 😄 Feeding them to the chickens sounds like a win-win, and your tips on checking for the culprit before reaching for a treatment are really helpful.
Hopefully your apple trees get a bit of a break as winter sets in.

We have massive grasshoppers here in WA mate and they are definitely a treat for the chickens 🤭 I would love to say to people who are new to gardening, just go outside in the garden and observe what is going on, if you spot something and you’re not sure what it is, please take a few photos and share them with us here in the Workshop and we can try and help out as best we can. That’s what I love about this Community !!!!!
