How to install Torsion Bar centre anchor?

Question

Tracking down some info on this as mine has recently failed, builder is sending someone around today so looking for the correct install requirements for this. But have not found any manufacture spec sheets etc on how they recommend these to be installed. My instinct is telling me this is not the correct way to install one….. Looks to have failed during install when putting tension on it, so they thought throwing another plastic plug right above the first whole would fix it…..

I only say incorrectly as it would appear to me that they tried to fasten to the very edge of the brick (which would be a massive no no to me), and looks like it failed during before handover as instead of assessing the situation, they doubled down drilling right above in the mortar creating a slot rather than a hole and just filling said slot with two plastic anchors and screws.

I would think that installing something under so much tension into motor goes against what the manufacturer would recommend……

Without knowing the manufacturer of the torsion bar system, it's difficult to say whether the installation is correct or not. My best advice would be to ask your builder for the manufacturer and model details, then request the installation instructions or specifications directly from the manufacturer.

At this stage, I could only speculate on the cause of the failure. It's possible the anchor was installed correctly, but the hollow core brick wasn't strong enough to support the load when the torsion spring was tensioned. If that's the case, the manufacturer may recommend an alternative fixing method, such as a chemical anchor, provided it's approved for use with their system.

It sounds like the builder is already arranging someone to inspect it, which is good. Hopefully, they'll be able to determine whether the issue was the installation method, the fixing, or the substrate itself.
