The project:
Travertine tile crazy paved coffee table with knockdown textured render

- Step 1:
Concept & Design
Sketched the initial concept with a focus on clean architectural lines, balanced proportions, and a monolithic appearance.
Structural Frame
Built a reinforced frame from M12 treated pine (75 × 35 mm), using screw-and-nail construction with 200 mm internal bracing for rigidity.
Cladding
Clad the frame with 6 mm fibre cement (Villaboard), creating a stable substrate suitable for a render system.
Edge Reinforcement
Installed render beads to all external corners and embedded fibreglass mesh into the render system to improve strength and minimise cracking.
Base Render
Applied a Rockcote Quick Float base coat to establish the shape and create a smooth, consistent surface.
Architectural Texture
Finished the exterior with Rockcote Coarse Texture, hand-worked to achieve the artisan render finish.
Stone Installation
Hand-laid individual travertine pieces in a crazy-pave pattern using a polymer-modified white-set tile adhesive.
Grouting & Sealing
Grouted the stone with Ardex WJ50 White Grout before sealing it with Silkopel WB Stone Sealer for long-term protection.
Architectural Coating System
Primed the rendered surfaces with Resene LimeLock, followed by two coats of Resene Lumbersider Low Sheen in Wattyl Arrowwood.
