The project:
This project pushed me well outside my comfort zone as it was the first time I’d built a yoga chaise from scratch. I had to learn new construction and upholstery techniques, overcome design challenges and make adjustments along the way to achieve the shape and comfort I was aiming for. Through patience, problem solving and plenty of determination, I transformed an idea into a finished piece that is both practical and visually striking. Completing it gave me confidence to take on more ambitious projects in the future.
- Materials:
Plywood, pallet timber, brad nails, foam adhesive, foam sheet, upholstery edging rail, faux leather, staples
- Tools:
Ryobi jigsaw, Ryobi brad nail gun, Ryobi reciprocating saw, staple gun, scissors
- Step 1:
first I had to work out the design which ended up being harder than I expected because I had to figure out a comfortable curve
- Step 2:
I then cut out my design and nailed the reclaimed timber support in to place
- Step 3:
I then used a thin piece of plywood and wet it with water to bend it into shape so the foam had a flat surface to stick to
- Step 4:
I then used adhesive to glue a foam sheet to the chaise
- Step 5:
I then cut my fake leather to size and attached it using a staple gun, ensuring to stretch it to form a good fit
- Step 6:
I then used some thin padding foam on the sides before attaching the side leather panels using an upholstery edge strip. Finally I added some feet to the bottom to raise it off the ground.
