How to fix BBQ burner issue?

I've just given my BBQ a thorough clean, including the burners but now it seems to have an issue lighting up correctly. There are small flames coming out of the burner pipes, but most of the flame is coming out near the point where the burners start, including a flame coming out backwards. I've added a picture here to hopefully show it more clearly what I mean, you can see the flames around the gas outlet. It doesn't seem like the burner tubes are blocked, but maybe actually the gas outlets at the start of the tubes. I'm a bit of a BBQ novice though so not too sure. Anyone have any ideas how to fix it?

From your description, it sounds like the flame is burning back towards the gas inlet rather than along the length of the burner tube. This can be caused by a number of issues, including an incorrectly seated burner, damage to the burner or venturi, or a blockage or obstruction affecting the gas and air mixture.

Given this involves a gas appliance and the flame is no longer behaving as intended, I'd recommend not operating the BBQ any further until the cause has been identified. The safest course of action is to contact the manufacturer for troubleshooting advice, as they'll be familiar with the burner design and any common issues. Alternatively, a licensed gas fitter should be able to inspect and repair it if required.
