What shade-tolerant plants can I grow that need not much attention?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @J-J101. It's wonderful to have you join us and many thanks for your question on plant selection

There are quite a few plants that thrive in shade and don't require a lot of maintenance, but it would help to know a little more about your space before making recommendations.

Could you let us know:

• Where are you located?
• Is the area in full shade all day, or does it receive some morning or afternoon sun?
• Are you planting in the ground or in pots?
• Are you looking for foliage plants, flowers, or a mix of both?
• Approximately how much space do you have to fill?

As a starting point, some reliable, low-maintenance shade-tolerant plants include Clivia, Liriope, Cast Iron Plant (Aspidistra), Native Violet, Peace Lily, Bird's Nest Fern, and Lomandra (depending on how much sun the area receives). If you're after some colour, Hydrangeas, Camellias and Impatiens can also perform well in sheltered, partly shaded positions.

Once we know a little more about your location and the area you're planting, our members might be able to suggest plants that are better suited to your conditions.
