The project:
Restored two retro roadside glass lamps by stripping them back and giving them a bold new finish. After cleaning off years of dirt, you removed the old clear blue paint and sanded rust from the metal details. You then primed the glass with a white base coat to make the final colour stand out. Three coats of cherry‑red spray paint transformed the lamps into vibrant, modern pieces while still keeping their vintage character. The project blends restoration with creative redesign, turning worn roadside finds into striking decorative features.

- Step 1:
Assess the lamps — Check condition: dirt, rust, paint, cracks, and stability.
- Step 2:
Deep clean surfaces — Wash glass and metal thoroughly to remove grime.
- Step 3:
Remove old paint — Strip the clear blue paint using the Flexovit 1200‑grit wet/dry sandpaper.
- Step 4:
Sand rusted metal — Use the same sandpaper to smooth rusted metal features until clean.
- Step 5:
Prepare the glass — Lightly wet‑sand the glass with the 1200‑grit roll for proper paint adhesion.
- Step 6:
Apply white primer — Spray a full white base coat to help the red colour pop.
- Step 7:
Spray first red coat — Apply an even first layer of White Knight Cherry Red Gloss Squirts.
- Step 8:
Add second red coat — Build depth with a smooth second coat of the same paint.
- Step 9:
Finish with third coat — Apply the final cherry‑red coat for full gloss and coverage.
- Step 10:
Cure and reassemble — Allow paint to cure fully, then reassemble and polish the lamps. Add warm lightbulb and lampshade for your desired style.
