The project:
Our 80s dark wooden kitchen was in desperate need of a renovation. We wanted to lighten it up and make it more functional. We had a budget of $30k and after several quotes from local cabinet makers that exceed $30k just for the cabinetry we quickly decided on Kaboodling it.
- Materials:
Kaboodle alpine cabinets in macaroon and a white subway tiled splashback. Plus 3000 various tools, plasterboard, paint and a lot of sweat equity.
- Tools:
Too many to list! We basically now own one of everything in the tool shop
- Step 1:
First we arranged a meeting with the best Kaboodle consultant at our local Bunnings. 30 minutes later we had settled on a kitchen design that was both functional and within our budget. And the added bonus it would be delivered in two weeks!
- Step 2:
We then disconnected all electrical and plumbing and set up a makeshift kitchen in our loungeroom
- Step 3:
Then grabbed the sledge hammer and recip saw and took all of the old cabinetry out! The original kitchen may have been ugly but it took some brute strength to remove!
- Step 4:
Then came some patching and painting of walls and ceiling. We finally had a blank canvas.
- Step 5:
Over a few wines we assembled our new kitchen and started to put it in place and secure it to walls.
- Step 6:
We then popped back into Bunnings and ordered cut to measure panels for under the cupboards and around the fridge.
- Step 7:
It was finally time to order stone from our local stone mason. He was shocked by the quality of the cabinetry and how great the kitchen was looking.
- Step 8:
Once the stone was installed we called in the professionals to hook up the plumbing and electrical. We used the free time to pop back into Bunnings to find our dream subway tile!
- Step 9:
Two days later we officially added tiler to our resume.
- Step 10:
And now it’s time to sit back, pour a glass of wine and enjoy what we achieved for $30k. If we can do it - you can too!
